Deregulation saves dollars in Texas

Rising oil costs are increasing the cost of electricity supply to many American families and businesses. The deregulation of the Texas electricity industry gives tangible savings to residential, business and commercial enterprises in Texas.
In the past, electricity supply was a monopoly in Texas and consumers were not able to choose their preferred provider. By deregulating Texas electricity, Texas’s consumers can now choose their Retail Electricity Provider (REP) in the same way they can choose their telephone service provider. You may recall that the deregulation of telephony services lowered prices and improved service. Texas consumers can expect to see the same results with the deregulation of electricity.
Deregulation of electricity affects the way electricity is generated, transmitted and distributed to the end user. Generation of electricity is the most expensive part of electricity supply and deregulation allows a reduction of costs in this area. For example, the Mercury Room in Houston saved over $13,000 on their electricity supply over a two year period.
By filling out two short forms online, Texas businesses can avail themselves of a free customized Texas electricity supply plan. Even more money can be saved by joining in with monthly electric aggregation. This is when a group of businesses pool their monthly bills in order to access a lower electric price for each business in the aggregation group. Good Energy is Texas Electric Company’s electric aggregator and they source and supply one bulk energy package to Texas retail electric providers.

The deregulation of the Texas electricity looks like in my plas Balikpapan, Indonesia. the Electricity supply is not enough to fulfill demand of energy. So save our energy…..
Thanks for the great tip! I am relocating to Texas from Chicago within the next month and have just started to research utility providers in my area. It is good to know that I have options when it comes to service, where as in Chicago there is only one electricity provider - ComEd.

Wish there would be different electricity service providers in Malta too.Here it is still a monopoly.
We need all the help we can get to get through these economic times. That’s great news for Texas, and it may even bring more businesses to the state.
We need to deregulate HMO’s for medical insurance the same way. With the declining economy and every penny counting we are going to see a faltering in the health coverage of the U.S. citizens. We have interesting times ahead of us.

Thanks for the great tip. I have put in an effort to save energy lately. I changed all lightbulds into low energy bulbs and we switched all windows in the house to 3-glass that keep the heating cost down. This was pretty expensive but i think we gain from it in the long run.
Good to hear something is being done, inflation is starting to get rediculous. They are starting to get us with everything: food, gas, car insurance, health insurance. If electricity and other bills gets any higher in our state I’ll be living out on the street.
This is such a good news for Texas people. I hope the Filipino government will also consider the same thing here in Phil.
I think they should have this everywhere. Also, you think this is done to subside other programs?
